The Society of Composers, Authors and Music Publishers of Canada (SOCAN) is the main performance rights organization for songwriter, composers and music publishers in Canada.
SOCAN represents more than 150 000 rights holders and music publishers in Canada, by managing performing and reproduction rights for their members, delivering licenses for performances and an A&R service dedicated mainly to record labels. SOCAN collects license fees through a music licensing program, approved by the Copyright Board of Canada.
SOCAN serves music creators, music publishers and visual artists, ensures users are licensed to play, and collects/distributes royalties in Canada and worldwide.
